Meet our Warriors
Who comes to class and what keeps them coming back?
The ladies were so welcoming and they made me feel very comfortable.
This January will be my 4 year anniversary with Fit By Design. My Journey began sometime before that. I was introduced to Sabrina via Face book from a friend who was attending classes. I participated in the challenges at home. Finally after many times filling out the registration I took the plunge. At that time I was attending evening classes. The ladies were so welcoming and they made me feel very comfortable. Looking back to the beginning of my fitness journey I realize that I wasn’t in as good a shape as I thought. I have gained so much strength and endurance over the last 4 years. My commitment to attending classes and giving it my all has shown that dedication pays off. I look forward to every class. I am drawn to Sabrina’s energy and the smiling, friendly faces of the warrior women. Many who have now become good friends I plan to train this spring for FemSport. I will be 64 at the time of the competition. I believe that age is not a factor. Its never to late to become fit. I have to admit that I did try other fitness groups a few years ago. I know now that I have found my “TRIBE”
To my surprise, not only was I gaining muscle and confidence I hadn’t had since high school, but I was making some wonderful friendships that were so supportive and encouraging.
Are you familiar with the saying, “You don’t what you’ve got until it’s gone?”
Well, two and a half years ago, I felt the opposite. I didn’t know what I was missing out on until I tried.
I’ve always felt like a fairly fit person. I played lots of sports in high school; I ate pretty decent and kept busy chasing around our 2 and 4 year old girls. Now that I look back on my life two and a half years ago, I wasn’t really that healthy at all. Maybe if you saw me walk by and judged a book by it’s cover, you would see that I was slim and that I kept busy and usually always had a smile on my face.
I am no Houdini, but it was an illusion.
I was terribly sleep-deprived, lacked any real strength and honestly other than knowing I should eat a well-balanced meal, I didn’t know much information about what my body needed to maintain a healthy nutritional lifestyle. By chance, I was invited to a free Fit By Design class in June 2016. I didn’t know what to expect, but was excited to go as I had seen these ladies working out outside as I drove by the park in the past. That’s all it took! One class! I was swept off my feet by the passion and energy that Sabrina willingly offered us in abundance. These classes were fun and they were challenging. I really didn’t know what I was missing out on until I tried! This was an environment where I could bring my children, be led by an extraordinary coach and be surrounded by different woman of all shapes and sizes, ages and abilities and not feel a shred of judgment. I felt safe. We were all accepted because we all showed up. To my surprise, not only was I gaining muscle and confidence I hadn’t had since high school, but I was making some wonderful friendships that were so supportive and encouraging.
Fast forward two and a half years and I can’t imagine doing anything different. I try to challenge myself more and more each class. I look forward to seeing all these incredible women, my friends. I feel so proud of what I have learned and done for my mind and body, but it hasn’t all been for myself. I have been a positive role model for our girls and I can see the healthy habits rubbing off on them. I feel beautiful and I feel strong. Never did I ever think that I would, or could, push a car, or flip a tire or be able to keep up with a step class, well almost keep up, but the point is, I didn’t know what I was missing out on until I tried…and I thank my lucky stars that I gave it a try!!
I felt welcomed and supported from the get go. It is a place where women support each other, lift each other up and cheer each other on.
I joined Fit by Design after being sidelined by a foot injury for over a year. I had lost over 50 lbs 2 years prior to my foot injury but with my time off from running the weight slowly crept back on.
I was embarrassed that I gained the weight back. I struggled just getting out the door for a walk let alone run or go to a class. But I saw a few posts about the classes and really was motivated by the community feel. When I arrived at my first class I did not know a soul and was feeling a bit apprehensive but people came right up and introduced themselves. I felt welcomed and supported from the get go. It is a place where women support each other, lift each other up and cheer each other on. I have to admit, the first class was an eye opener to how much work I had to do, I had to stop so many times and felt like I would never keep up. No one really noticed and my instructor gave me modifications so I could keep moving. I started with 2 classes a week and now some weeks I go 5 – 6 days in a row! The variety of classes and time choices ensure you are never bored and the instructors make sure you leave with a smile on your face! I never thought I would love 6 am classes, but now it’s the best way to start my day!
