In the “Mommy Wellness Challenge” we are all shapes and sizes. We exercise for fun and fitness. We sweat and push ourselves to do the best we can. For some, exercise has always been a way of life and for others it is a new beginning. Every session is full of variety and sometimes it takes every last ounce of strength to get through to the next exercise. Believe me, I know…. But today was one of those great classes where I felt like I had really made some headway in my journey to better overall health. For the second week in the session, I jogged during the warm up. The whole warm up!! That was a big step from the walking pace I started off with in the first six week session.
Since Sabrina likes to keep us on our toes, literally - There is always a small part of me that crosses my fingers and thinks “Please don’t make us run”, followed swiftly with some chanting from the voice inside my head “Anything but running, anything but running.” Sometimes I include other words that also mean running incase Sabrina switches up her vocabulary. “Anything but dashes, anything but dashes!”
I get that nervous feeling. That feeling you get when you are waiting for good or bad news. The excited, anxious feeling where you hope for one outcome with your fingers crossed behind your back. The thing is, and I don’t really want to admit it, but sometimes I hope Sabrina will say “run” or “dash” because I secretly want the challenge.
I realize my own limitations, but I am starting to enjoy being out of my comfort zone. What was hard in week one, is easier now. What was impossible in week one, is possible now. It hasn’t taken me long to make progress and now I can continue building on that.
Whatever I can’t do today, might be possible tomorrow and in the meantime, I will enjoy each step of the journey to fitness, even the ones where I am running!
