The last 12 weeks of training was really fun & it was great to see all of my teammates come so far in their own journey towards competing. Some concerned with the box jumps, others dealing with chronic injuries and others struggling with balancing the training with day-to-day responsibilities. Now with all that behind us and the day only one sleep away emotions were high and nerves starting to make it up to the surface!
As we all gathered for the start of the competition I felt excited and far less nervous than I thought I would. The kettle bell run was our first event & the ladies made their way up, I stood at the end to ensure that I could cheer them on & take pictures along the way. All of a sudden, Sabrina Sinclair was called, what shit I hadn't paid attention to the order. I threw my phone & glasses down, jumped to the starting line and we were off. As I ran I heard someone in the crowd say, she is doing it wrong, what? No, not me, I kept picking up those bells & dropping them off until, on the way to the last 70 lb bell I realized I had done the event backwards! And you know what at the end I laughed pretty hard at myself & learned a valuable lesson, PAY ATTENTION!
With that out of the way it was time to just relax & take in some of the moments that would create the memories of this day. Seeing my teammates after completing the first event, watching as floods of supporters came to cheer on our team & when I saw my family arrive I was so filled warmth. This day proved to be a mix of every emotion you could imagine. Pride for myself & teammates, inspiration from all of the participants that came in every shape & size, accomplishment for leading our team and motivation to push past any barriers I had set for myself.
This event was meant to get me out of my comfort zone and it turns out I felt completely comfortable as if this could be my calling! So a shift in my training, perspective and attitude all took place in 8 short hours! You will see our Fit By Design Team out again next year...
Thanks to the other eight amazing, strong, dedicated, loving, nurturing and successful women who trained & competed with me, I will never forget this experience as long as I live!
