Me and Kenzie at the Santa Parade..
Wow, what a great weekend I had with my family. I realized how health & wellness really impact my family based on my business and other activities. On Saturday I was so fortunate to bring Mackenzie down town to participate in the Santa Parade with the Daily News Boogie Team. Who knew it would be a 30 minute high energy workout, not me. When Jo asked me to join in I thought we would be standing and waving on a pretty float, o no...running and dancing behind the Run Club VW Bug!
Madie doing her jumping jacks!
Next it was time for Madie to pull out her own Yoga mat and 1lb free weights to do her workout. "Please put on the new workout video with the lady on the beach so I can do my class", her words exactly. So now mom & Madie are doing some Yoga poses, squats with free weights and jumping jacks. After the class it was time for a big glass of water.
Putting our first batch of Kale chips into the oven.
As you all know I am working very hard to clean up our meals and choose healthier alternatives for snacking so I purchased some Kale last week. Now I had heard from a fellow mom that they Kale chips tasted great and were easy to prepare so I put it to the test. Kenzie and I washed it and tore it into bit sized pieces, placed it onto the cookie sheet, drizzled the olive oil and put some sea salt on top. Oven turned to 350, just like the directions I found on Google. Alright, so far so good! Then my husband asks, are they suppose to smoke like that? Perhaps my drizzle was more of a pour, no worries open up all the windows, turn the chips over and 5 more minutes. Times up, pull them out, slide onto the plate and now the test begins..how do they taste? Well my friends we have a winner! The whole family, hubby included loved them...success!
The finished product.
Alright all you of you out there reading my blogs, it's time to chime in with some family-fitness related stories, I would love to hear from you!!!
Time for me to take a deep breathe and regain some control over this next week that has come too quickly. Do you ever feel that way? Looking back I can say that last week was one of the busiest and fun-filled one's I have had in awhile. Photo shoot, One Year Celebration of the Mommy's Wellness Programs, interview for Kamloops Momma Magazine and a weekend health & wellness conference in Vancouver. Here is where my discipline is tested, as I know yours is so often as well. I picked up a new bag of spinach, ready to keep up the Green Monster Smoothies for another week to help me keep on top of my game. Next, take time out to process all of the information that I took in over the weekend from some of my favorite presenters and plan it into my training plans. Book in extra family time as my wonderful husband gets home tomorrow, so excited! I have him on board for meal planning as well, so we will sit down tomorrow and pre plan the next 8 days, with at least one diner out, and head out to shop for all the necessary ingredients. Oh but wait, I attended the most educational workshop that focused on improving your current nutritional habits and learned so much about processed & packaged food so this step may be a bit tougher than usual. I am unable to make all the suggested changes but will pick two and sell him on them. Stay tuned for my next blog where I will share some of this information with you and let you know what two recipes I will attempt with the help of my hubby of course. Hoping that you have chosen one healthy habit to work on for this week, if you have please share it, I would love to hear from you!
As I sit here in my quiet house trying to work out in my head what I want to say to everyone out there who have supported me and helped me build my Mommy's Wellness Programs I am stumped. I haven't won an award so I shouldn't write an acceptance speech, but at the same time one of the most important messages I express to all of my mom's is to celebrate your success, no matter how small. For me to brush it off and say ok just another day would be a bit hippo critical, right? Instead I will embrace this feeling of success and share it with all of those who have helped build an amazing program that has seen over 100 mom's improve their own personal health and their families as well. I have had the good fortune to work with, and become friends with, women who have shared stories, laughs, struggles, sweat, tears and of course pain (I do inflict a certain amount of muscle soreness) in this group. Along the way I have had amazing people and businesses support us in our challenges, which started off with 14 mom's and recently wrapped up our last one of 2011 with 56 participants!
My goal for the New Year is to continue to grow and work with as many families as possible. This will be accomplished by partnering up with other wellness professionals to incorporate more tools to help individuals reach their goals and live healthier lives through exercise, proper nutrition and attention to self care. No gimmicks, just hard work, commitment, fun and of course a Green Monster Smoothie!
So those of you who I should thank if this was an acceptance speech, you know who you are, I am grateful everyday for this opportunity and thank you all for making it possible for me to continue to affect positive change in people everyday!
Looking back over the past seven days I can truly say that a cleanse was beneficial for me in so many ways. My goal when purchasing this cleanse at Nature’s Fair last weekend was to help give me a jump-start on my personal nutritional goals that I have set for my family and myself. Those of you, who know me, know that I am lacking in cooking skills and this is my biggest roadblock to achieving my wellness goals. I truly admire those of you out there who can put together a nice home cooked meal and serve it fresh to your family to enjoy. Each week I am fortunate to have my mom feed my kids at least 2-3 meals and my good friend Jamie who watches the girls one night a week, leaving me with only 2 or 3 nights that I have to prepare meals. That shouldn’t be too hard right? My best intentions get me prepping food on Sunday and working to have the meals set to go for those evenings, now is where I have my melt down. How do you cook with two children who want attention and you don’t want to use the TV to keep them occupied? I started by having them both assisting in the kitchen, which soon led to spills, fights and me reaching for that glass of wine! I have improved over the past two weeks though and seem to have a bit of a system. Alright so that part seems to be flowing, next how can I stretch my meals past chicken breasts, rice and cut up veggies, I kid you not this is what we have eaten for years, take out chicken and input fish, maybe mix it up with some spaghetti once and a while, but all in all BORING!
So back to the cleanse. I wanted to clean up my insides to get my body ready for my new approach to fuelling it. Along with the cleanse, I am also completing a Lifestyle Assessment Form and have hired Rina, Do Your Body Good, to help me put all the pieces togehter. I will be answering some pretty personal questions about my bodily functions and eating habits in order to help me evaluate my current pattern and work on replacing them with better choices and adding variety to the Sinclair menu.
Now I am charged up after the 7 day cleanse, which for me included, 7 mornings started with spinach smoothies. Stay tuned as I share the benefits of my cleanse, why you should begin each day with a Green Monster Smootie and what recipes I will tackle over the next four weeks. Please follow along with me each Wednesday to catch up on my progress and share in my struggles!
Wishing you health & happiness always...
The Green Monster Challenge! Building on the great information that Julie from Pure Cuisine shared with us last week, I wanted to put a challenge out to all of my boot camp participants, Face book friends and blog followers to join the 7 day Green Monster Challenge. Last week I did a cleanse for myself and was looking up spinach smoothies, because my hubby always buys a big bag and then leaves for camp for three weeks leaving me with slimy spinach. So since I was on this cleanse I thought I would try a green smoothie that had been recommended to me by a friend. During my search I came upon a great website,http://greenmonstermovement.com/.Here I found everything I wanted to know about making great tasting smoothies that were full of nutrients I had been missing in my diet. So I mixed up the basic one on Monday and have not stopped. For this week I wanted to get some dialogue going about our current intake of fruits & veggies daily and challenge you to adding one Green Monster Smoothie to your meal plan each day for seven days. I want stories, pictures and feed back from your families. Any one who commits and sticks to it for the seven days will be entered into a draw for a $25 gift certificate at Pure Cuisine. Another $25 gift certificate will be up for grabs to the best picture taken with a Green Monster Smoothie in it, as voted by all of you starting Sunday. Simple post, YES to the GREEN SMOOTHIE, keep us updated and submit a funny, cute or original picture with a smoothie for your chance to win...Be sure to put your pictures up on the Fit By Design page if you would like to get involved.
Well getting back on track from vacation, and Halloween! What I did with the candy,I packed it up and brought it to school for the kids as treats! (bribery! Lol) We also went to the mall to do trick or treating, when we got home I took all the candy and dumped it into the bowl to give away! Way less candy this year in my home I kept the kids favorites and hid them so I wouldn't get into them! My hubby is very supportive and when he sees me reach for candy he asks me "really, are you sure?" I know he says this to me to help remind me of my goal!
I have lost a total of 40.5 inches since January! And lost 86.9 pounds!
I have been able to make it to workouts with Sabrina 2 night classes a week and have been jogging also and of course watching my calorie intake. It has been challenging since being at work, its taken longer to loose but I haven't gained, it's just slowly coming of now. There not kidding the last little bit of weight is the hardest! But I am so thankful I have such a great support group of people around me! I am so close.
