In February Christina became our Warrior Women Challenge winner. Christina embodies what it means to be a warrior woman and I couldn't be more proud of all of her recent accomplishments.
What Christina had to say...
I joined FemSport to challenge myself and accomplish something outside my comfort zone. When I didn't get to perform like I wanted because of illness and lack of sleep I was pretty upset, but my team mates saved me. My teammates all competed at completely different times from me, so I got to watch each of their efforts. Sharing in their experience improved my own. Seeing their struggles and joy lifted me up.
Fem Sport became more about the relationships than about the competition itself. It was more about what was happening on the sidelines than the events; the cheering, encouragement, fans, warm up, family, food. Out of all the pictures I took my favorites are the ones from the sidelines. The intimate moments where we each shouldered some of our comrades fears and got to celebrate in their successes.
To me, these intimate photos epitomize the culture that Fit By Design breeds. We were empowered, united and inspired and it was those 3 values that got each of us to through our events. I'm so thankful to have been part of this team and to have captured this.
This women is the definition of strong to me. When she works out she is focused on her task & works to improve & become stronger every day. When we began this training I knew that Tami would perform at her best & push past her limits as I didn't see that she had any other options but to succeed. When I watched Tami step up to each event there was no doubt in her eyes only
determination. I am envious of her strength & power, she makes it look easy!
In Tami's Own Words....
The first month of Femsport when we were working on cardio, I kept wondering why we were doing this and when the fun stuff was going to come. Then I realized after breathless classes, that I needed to improve my endurance in order to withstand a day of competing and sprinting when possible.
When we started getting into the second month and the workouts pushed my limits and intensified, there were times I left feeling defeated and would cry on the way home. I kept wondering why was my body fighting me? Why cant I push through this? But I did.
Things changed, my endurance changed and I was starting to be able to perform the exercises set out for me. I noticed others changing as well around me. Then when we had our final month of training. I was blown away by the Team support and love that radiated from class everytime. I was always looking forward to training days. With everyones determination, support, and we can do this attitude, I was getting more and more excited and less frightened of competition day. Now I have never been what I consider an Athlete...someone who is in extreme physical shape competeing against other extreme people. The idea of the competition had scared me in thinking that I was going to be waaaaaay out of my league. Being a bigger girl, I thought I would be embarassed competing against those who live, breathe and sleep fitness.
Well, I was pleasantly surprised. When the day of competing finally came and knowing I had the wonderful support of my teamates, I was ready. Ready to show the little miss crop tops of the world that I will be a fierce competitor, and show them my strength by pushing and pulling the tires around! The day of Femsport I was proud to say for once in my life, I was finally an Athlete!
This day could not have been possible without the encouragement and love of those on the Fit by Design Team. I knew this experience would empower me but I never expected the moment of proudness to be part of a Team who represented so much more than just a group of Mommies, we were a group of Warrior Women. Women who endured the tough training, competed in the hot sun, cheered on all the competitors, and successfully finished our day. I will remember this day for a very long time. Thanks Ladies!
Emily Hoffman's experience..
I have never accomplished so much or come so far in 3 months. When we first started training for fem sport I brought 5 lbs weights to class - now I am up to 15 lbs!
I had never done any upper body training - all I ever did was cardio.
I also could not flip the tire and needed the help of my teammates for many sessions.
All of those wonderful women helped me succeed in my goal and I rocked that tire flip on event day! I have noticed a huge change in my body since I have begun lifting weights - Thanks Sabrina!
